Mmmm. Smell that? It’s called fall. Pawsibly my favorite season; although that might have something to do with all the free treats I get from strangers when my pawrents dress me up in ridiculous costumes. From watching the leaves change color to cozying up next to the fire, what’s a pug not to love? Not to mention I can order a Pumpkin Spiced Latte from Starbucks now! Hehe I’m just puggin’ around, but I do get the craving for a tasty fall treat now and then. If your furry friend does too check out our pawsome fall inspired recipes picked fresh from our garden of plush toys! That’s right; our Garden Fresh toys come with a human or dog-friendly recipe included on the tag. I’ve picked some of my fall favorites just for your pup so check them out below and get cooking!
Pumpkin: PB & Pumpkin Treat Recipe
Did you know that pumpkins are an awesome source of nutrition for your furry friend? Pumpkin fiber helps with upset tummies and the seeds are high in essential fatty acids and antioxidants, promoting healthy skin and fur!
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups of whole wheat flour
2 eggs
½ cup of canned pumpkin
2 tablespoons of peanut butter
½ teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
Directions:
Whisk together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt and cinnamon in a bowl. Add water as needed to help make the dough workable, but the dough should be dry and stiff. Roll dough into a ½ inch-thick roll. Cut into ½ inch pieces. Bake for about 40 minutes or until hardened.
Chef Momo’s Notes: This yummy snack is packed with fall flavor and is the perfect Halloween treat to hand out to your four legged visitors! Wrap it up in a spirited Halloween baggy and you’ve got yourself a spooktacular goody bad.
Peapod: Pea & Carrot Treat Recipe
Many studies have shown that both cats and dogs love the taste of peas when added to their meals or given as a treat. High in B vitamin thiamine, phosphorous and potassium, peas are a great way to boost nutrition in your pet’s diet.
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
Ingredients:
3 cups of flour
½ cup of shortening
2 cups peas & diced carrots
½ pound of raw beef liver, blended
2 eggs, beaten
½ cup of beef broth
Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl, adding the eggs and liver last. Place dough onto a well-floured surface and knead until the dough is soft and pliable. Halve the dough ball and roll into two, 1 inch wide logs. Cut ½ inch slices and place onto a greased baking sheet. Bake for 35 minutes or until cookies are golden brown.
Chef Momo’s Notes: These savory treats will satisfy your pup’s comfort food craving, while still getting them to eat their veggies. I like to eat mine snuggled up in my Snuggle Bed while I watch spooky movies with my pawrents!
