August 1st (DOGust 1st) is the day to celebrate the dog that may not have started their life with you, but are sure to be there every step of the way from here on out. Check out these birthday celebration ideas for you to share with your pup and make their day wonderful. Let the party begin!
1. Head-out-the-window car ride to the pet store
Let your pup catch some fresh air while heading to their favorite pet store. Once you arrive, let them lead you to where they want to go and let them pick their top choice for their birthday gift.
2. Dog friendly happy hour
With more and more dog friendly establishments popping up, take your dog with while you head out for some snacks or drinks with friends. Bringfido is a great resource to find restaurants in your area that allow pets.
3. Make a doggie birthday cake
Want to let your dog indulge a little on their special day? Try making a dog birthday cake. Gus recommends this peanut butter dog cake for maximum flavor.
Warning: Your dog may consume in lightning speed. Make sure to have the camera out and ready to snap some photos!
4. Invite your dog's best friends over for a play date
If your dog has a best friend from training class, or a neighbor dog who wishes they could squeeze through your fence - invite them over for an hour or two to let them play. You could even share some birthday cake with the pup (as long as its pet-parent approved).
5. End the night with a movie on the couch
If your dog is usually only allowed on their bed, let them spend a little time with you relaxing on the couch. Lay a towel or blanket over the couch and allow your pup to come up and lay in the designated area. Make sure to give an out-of-this-world belly rub during this time. Some Gus-Approved movies are:
- Homeward Bound
- Bolt
- Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Gus can’t wait until his next birthday after helping me write about his favorites. How do you plan on celebrating your dog's birthday?
