4 Injury Recovery Tips to Aid Hurt Dogs

When your dog has been injured, you may be feeling a tremendous amount of stress, wondering how your dog's recovery will progress over time. Just as it is with humans, it is important that your dog's recovery plan includes various steps that will involve many different aspects of care. If you want your favorite canine family member to heal up and feel great as soon as possible, here are four injury recovery tips to aid your injured dog.

Prepare a Quiet Place to Rest

When your dog is recovering from an injury, they will need a quiet place to rest. When dogs are injured, they will tend to sleep more so that they can conserve their energy, which helps to mend injured tissue. If you can, fix up a spare room where your dog can rest and relax without too many other people or pets bothering them. If you don't have a spare room, a corner of your bedroom would be a good spot. If you have children, be sure to let them know to avoid disturbing your pet as they recover.

Do What the Vet Says

If you want to ensure your dog heals up in the best possible manner, follow the instructions given to you by your dog's veterinarian. This should include checking for potential problems such as swelling, vomiting, or other signs that something just isn't right with your dog. Also, if your dog is bandaged or wearing splints or leg braces, don't remove them unless your vet says it's okay to do so.

Medications and Supplements

Though giving your dog medication may not be the easiest task, doing so will be crucial to helping them recover from an injury. When looking for treatments and supplements online, make sure to only purchase products that are intended for dogs. For example, oxygen healing gel for animals may be recommended by your vet, especially if your dog is prone to licking their wounds, which may result in skin irritation. Whether you are feeding your dog a pill or are taking a few minutes to spread a topical onto their skin, a little effort will go a long way toward helping your dog recover from their injuries.

Feed Your Dog a Healthy Diet

When your dog is fed a healthy diet while recovering from an injury, chances are this will help them heal up much quicker. Remember, not all diet plans fit all injuries. Therefore, discuss what foods would work best for your dog with your veterinarian. By giving your dog food that contains vital nutrients, tissue can heal much faster.

By following these tips, giving your dog plenty of love and support along the way, and being patient, your favorite canine will soon be up and about and ready to go for a walk.
