5 Simple Ways to Improve Canine Health

Your dog is one of your best friends, so you want to keep them as healthy as you can! Today we will share a few essential tips that may help you to keep your canine companion in tip-top shape!

Exercise!

Exercise is just as crucial for your dog as it is for you! Make it a point to take your dog outside for some physical activity at least once every day. Whether it is playing a game of fetch in your backyard, a stroll around the neighborhood, a hike, or a trip to the dog park, make sure that they have time to get outside, stretch their legs, and get their heart pumping. Remember, an active pup is a healthy pup!

Avoid Toxins

Avoiding toxins is another simple way to keep your dog healthy and happy. One overlooked toxin is carbon monoxide. ADT explains, "Carbon monoxide gas or CO has no color or taste. It can't be detected by our senses. In high concentration, it can be deadly." Getting a carbon monoxide detector is an easy way to ensure that neither you nor your dog is exposed.

In addition, make sure that products like antifreeze are stored at a height that the dog cannot get to. Dogs love the smell of antifreeze, and many will eat it by mistake if it is not properly stored. Keep antifreeze far out of your dog's reach.

Watch what they Eat

It is a well-known fact that dogs cannot have chocolate. Keeping your dog away from chocolate and other foods that can be harmful to dogs, like sugar, is a great way to keep them healthy.

In addition to avoiding chocolate and sugar, you also need to make sure that you are feeding your dog good kibble. There are different types of kibble for different types of dogs, so make sure you pick out the appropriate type and check the expiration date to ensure it is not bad!

Frequent Vet Visits

According to Therapy Pet, “the frequency of your dog’s visits to the veterinarian will depend based on their breed, age, health history and lifestyle” but “every healthy dog should visit the veterinarian at least once every year. If your dog is older, make that two visits per year.” You go to the doctor for yearly check-ups and you should be taking your pup too. Talk to your vet to work out a schedule that works for you and your pup. This schedule will vary from dog to dog but it is important to always be monitoring your furry friend's health!

Get them a Bed

A good night's sleep is important for dogs too! Well-made dog beds help your canine companion get adequate sleep. Proper sleep will allow them to start their day with the energy they need to work and play with you and your family.

Keep these tips in mind to make sure that your dog is living its fullest and healthiest life. Little changes can make a world of a difference and may even add years onto your dog's life!
