Momo Monday: Helping Your Hooman Survive Shelter in Place

Let me guess. You’re lying on your P.L.A.Y. bed right now, wondering why your hooman hasn’t left for work yet. Instead of rushing out the door with coffee in hand they are sitting at home in their PJ’s (no judgement), typing a response to that email from their boss and all the while counting in their head how many rolls of toilet paper are left in the house. Guess this is a good time to be a dog right?

While we might have no idea about what is going on in the world right now or why our hoomans are at home now 24/7, we’re just happy we get to cuddle them all day and demand, I mean, politely, ask for treats and belly rubs, even in the middle of that impawtant work call. #sorrynotsorry

But that doesn’t mean we don’t know when something’s up. We pets can sense when our hoomans are stressed, and I’ve noticed that my own hoomans have looked a bit worried lately. I decided to help them out and share some tips on ways they can de-stress and feel more at ease while they are at home .

Here are 3 simple tips on how you can help your hoomans survive social distancing:

Stay Active:

While your hooman might think this is a genius idea, it’s not exactly necessary. They can still get out of the house for a bit of fresh air and exercise with you by their side as long as they keep 6 feet of distance between themselves and others. So take your hooman for a stroll around the block or head to the beach to listen to the relaxing waves. It’s impawtant to remind them to take frequent breaks throughout the day to unwind and practice a bit of normalcy.

Stay Sane:

Spending so much time at home with very little outside activity can make hoomans go a little stir crazy. Remind your pawrents to take a break from work now and then so they can re-charge and have some time to themselves. Encourage them to play a board game or do a puzzle. Reading a book is another great way to relax and can take their mind off of the daily stress they might be experiencing.

Stay P.L.A.Y.ful:

It’s at times like these that our hoomans need us the most, so cheer them up by reminding them about the things in life that they should be happy and excited about! Maybe it’s the fact that they now have time to try out that new dinner recipe they’ve wanted to make for a while but just hadn’t had the time. Or perhaps you’ve heard them mention on the phone about how badly they want to take up painting again, but there just never seems to be enough hours in the day. Now with commute out of the way, push them to do the fun things that they’ve been putting off.

These tips have helped me cheer up my hoomans and I hope they help yours as well! If they’re looking for a little extra cheer, tell them to check out my instragram page @momotheplaypug for some cuteness overload. Not bragging… just keepin’ it real.

Stay safe!
