Four Ways To Give Your Pet A Long and Happy Life

Pets aren't just animals. They are a part of the family. You want your family members to thrive, so you have to make sure you do everything you can to give your pets long, happy lives. There are some simple tips you can follow to ensure that your pets live their lives to the fullest.

Use Premium Food

Analyze the ingredients before buying pet food. Ingredients are listed by their precooking weights, starting with the heaviest and going down to the lightest. Choose foods that have an animal based protein near the top of the list. Do not choose foods that list meat by-products as one of the first ingredients.

Stimulate the Animal

Animals need stimulation to be happy and healthy. That means you need to set aside some time each day to play with your pets. Taking walks are playing with toys are both excellent ways to stimulate your pets. Also, be sure to spend some time petting your animals. That will make them feel happy and secure.

Get Your Animal Spayed or Neutered

Unneutered animals are more likely to roam, which means they are more likely to get hit by cars. They are also more likely to have health issues, such as cancer. These health issues lead to shortened life spans. In fact, a report published in USA Today (May 7, 2013) stated that neutered dogs typically live 18% longer than their unneutered counterparts. Spayed dogs live an average of 23% longer when compared to dogs that have not been spayed. You can get your animal spayed at one of the Toronto or local veterinary clinics or animal hospitals.

Get Regular Checkups

According to the Brimley-Lawrence Animal Clinic, regular checkups are essential if you are going to have healthy and happy pets. Your vet will give your pets their annual shots, monitor their weight, and check their teeth. Your veterinarian will also look for signs of diseases or other issues. This will allow you to catch any problems early. That will make it easier for you to keep your pets healthy for the long run.

Your pets depend on you. They need you to keep them healthy and happy. They don’t ask for much, but they do need good vet care, healthy food and some stimulation. They also need to be spayed or neutered. If you can give your pets those things, you will likely have animal companions for a very long time.
