Puppy Paradise: 4 Design Necessities For The Ultimate Dog-Friendly Yard

Your puppy will likely become part of the family. You'll want to include the puppy in things that you do on a daily basis, making him feel loved and wanted. Even if you keep the puppy inside all the time, your furry friend will need to go outdoors at some point to get fresh air and sunshine. There are a few ways that you can design your yard to include the necessities that your dog will need for playing, eating and drinking.

Water Fountain

Dogs enjoy the water. They like to play in it and drink it, even if it's from a toilet. Add a small fountain in the yard that is close to the ground so that there is a constant supply of fresh water for your dog. A plumber, like those at Moon Valley Plumbing, can connect the lines that run from the house to the fountain. A splash fountain is also an idea so that the dog can play in the water or drink depending on what he wants to do at the time.

Set Boundaries

While dogs are protective and usually not afraid of many things as they will stand their ground to intruders and other animals, you need to set up some kind of border around the yard to prevent unwanted animals or people from getting inside. The barrier can also be used to teach your dog where he's allowed to go in the yard and where he needs to stay away from, such as a neighbor's yard. Choose a fence that matches the exterior of the home. An electric fence is also an option and will help to train the dog to stay in the yard without requiring a lot of materials used in building a barrier.

When your dog is outside, he might get hot and want somewhere to cool off or lie down. Build a relaxing shelter from a large tree to provide shade and maybe even a small cot that the dog can use to take a nap. An overhead tarp or outdoor dog tent is also a good idea. Consider a dog house in this area if you have enough space for one.

Dogs enjoy walking and running. Create paths in the yard where the dog is free to walk and run. Train the dog where he can go and where he needs to avoid. If he goes on the pathways, then reward him so that he knows that he is allowed to go on these areas in the yard.

With a little work, you can create a fun environment for your dog in the yard. Add the essentials that your dog will need, like water and food, as well as a few treats for him to enjoy, such as a play area. Your furry friend will likely reward you with kisses and plenty of love.
