5 Ways an Early Warning System Keeps Pets Safe

Current statistics show that over 80 million households in the United States own a pet. That's more than 50%. Most of that number may be made up of cat and dog owners.

If you are one of the millions of Americans who is a pet owner, you know it is a top priority to keep your furry family members safe just like you would any other member of your family. That is especially true for when you are away from home and they are left unattended. Here are five ways to keep them safe if you have an early warning with home security systems. According to Protect Your Home, “you cannot anticipate every problem that life will present. But, the more prepared you are and the faster you can react, the better off your home and your family will be.”

Eye in the sky

With 24/7 monitoring on your home, your home security system watches over the lives of your pets when you are at work, on vacation, or out on the town. That means that in the event of a break-in or a fire, Fluffy or Fido can anticipate the security company contacting the appropriate emergency responders to come to the rescue.

Smoke sensors detect early signs of fire

Fires consume hundreds of thousands of American homes a year, and many more pets may die than people. Part of this is due to animal's lungs being more sensitive to smoke inhalation than a human's. Smoke sensors work fast to help get everyone out of the house in a timely manner in case a fire were to occur. Carbon monoxide detectors can also help alert you to get yourself and your pets out before breathing deadly carbon monoxide fumes.

Flood sensors can keep your pet from ending up under water

ADT's flood sensors are only available in certain states. But if your area is a flood risk and you can add the sensor to your home, it may help save your pet's life in case a hurricane, flash flood, or other emergency were to occur.

Video monitoring vs. Intruders

A burglar may possibly steal or cause harm to your pet. With video monitoring, your pets are protected against being stolen or harmed. Video monitoring also includes motion detectors that can tell the difference between a pet or your intruder, with some limitations.

Sometimes, it’s the simple things

With the way technology works, it is no surprise that society has gotten away from the simple pleasures of life. However, when it comes to protecting your pets, the simplest things can help. A bell on the door that rings whenever the door is open. A blinking light when a window is opening. Sometimes a simple noise when those same windows and doors are open can make the biggest difference.

We all love our pets for better or for worse. They are members of our families and deserve to be safe in our homes. These are just a few tips for protecting them and ensuring their safety.
