Road Tripping with Your Canine Friend

Are you thinking about having an awesome road trip? They are fun by definition! Naturally, choosing the right place is very important, but what really dictates the vibe is company. With a great crew, you’ll have no worries! If you’re bringing all your buddies, why not bring your best bud – your doggo? Sounds great! However, there are a few things you should consider before bringing your pet along. Luckily, we’re here to help you find out how to properly prepare your dog for the trip.

Vet Check

Before you decide to take your dog away for some time, make sure that they’re ready. This denotes many things, but health should be your primary concern. Visit the vet and see if your dog is in a good condition for this kind of activity. Inform your vet about the trip and ask for advice on which meds you should bring and what are the possible health hazards your dog may face, and how to prevent or treat them. You should also microchip your dog if you haven’t done that already, in case they gets lost.

Plan Pet-Friendly

While planning your route and all the places you’d like to visit, don’t forget to check if they accept pets in their facilities. Just because you’re thrilled by the idea of going everywhere with your furry friend, it doesn’t mean that everyone will feel the same way. This is why you need to be very careful when choosing places to stay and visit. Even if you have to leave your pup in order to go somewhere, try to put one of your friends in charge of dogsitting. It’s not the same as leaving them home alone. This is a whole new environment for them, they will not be at ease and they might even think that you have abandoned them.

Pet Store Visit

One of the things you definitely must do is visit a pet store. You will need all sorts of gadgets for your pup, depending on the type of the road trip. For example, if you are going somewhere colder than your place of residence, consider buying a sweater for your little one, especially if they are short-haired. If your dog needs a new collar or a leash, now would be a good time to buy those. Also, don’t forget to stock up on dog food, and nutritious Royal Canin is our personal recommendation. It’s excellent and very popular!

Keep Them Safe and Comfortable

Another important issue is dog safety. It is strongly recommended that you have your dog bucked up. Regardless of how well-behaved they may be, you never know what might set them off in an unfamiliar environment, so you shouldn’t risk anyone getting hurt. Keeping your dog in a crate is the safest and most comfortable way to travel. Under no circumstances should you keep your car windows down, as your dog could suddenly get the urge to look out and risk getting seriously injured. Besides a crate, you can also buy your pup a pillow or a mat, to make sure that they’re comfortable all the time. In addition, let your dog stretch their legs every 3-4 hours. Just like people, they need to freshen up and prepare themselves for the rest of the ride.

Now that you are well-informed about your to-dos before going on a road trip, you can rest assured that your pup will enjoy this trip as much as you will. All you have to do is buckle up and get ready for an unforgettable joyride with your best friend!
